ESOY Elementary Science Program
The Engineering Society of York has recently initiated an Elementary
School Science Program. The program is an interactive science program
that is free to the elementary schools. The purpose of the program is
to enliven an interest in the study of science and encourage
scientific thinking skills. The program is being conducted by James
Filizzi, a retired science teacher of 35 years of teaching experience
at Dallastown Area High School. The program presents physical science
concepts in a grade appropriate manner for 30 to 40 minutes and is
presented in a single classroom setting or a multi-room setting with
several classes. As we are just starting the program, it is available
to third and fourth grade classes only. We are hoping to grow the
program.
Monies for the Elementary Science Program come from the Edgar P. Kable
Trust Fund. The Kable Trust Fund was originally funded by a former
President of the York Water Company, Edgar P. Kable. The trust fund was
supplemented with a substantial gift from John Kable (Edgar's nephew)
in 2000.
The program is currently for third grade and is free to York County
Elementary Schools. We are hoping to expand and grow the program. For
